18th Century Indian Tegha Sword

Massive proportions with broad 26 1/2" s.e. blade, 2 7/8" width at the widest, with thickened "armor piercing" point. Overlaid in brass scenes of Krishna flanked by gopis. Four oval panels above. Three with copper and brass detailed deities and the lower with calligraphy. Additional panels with flower heads and foliage. Large iron hilt with delicately pierced langets, chiseled overall with flower buds. Showing the perfunctory craftsmanship characteristic for these. The hilt with good gray frosty patina. Blade with mottled gray patina and scattered islands of localized old arrested oxidation. An icon among Indopersian weapons. In the James Bond movie, Octopussy, a pair of these hung on the wall of Octopussy's palace.
