Originally described as Polish Karabela but with further research and help from a fellow ebay member determined the more correct origin of this rare saber making it even more scarce being an 18th century Ottoman weapon from the Balkans region, possibly Serbia, Macedonia or Transylvania. Mounted with a lovely quality curved blade featuring a shallow but wide fuller to each side running the entire length of the blade and in to the slightly raised false edge area of the tip, showing original steel color with scattered gray patina and patches of very fine pitting. Fabulous large grip carved from a fine two tone wood in the extra broad eagle head like pommel form, having brass furniture engraved with floral motifs and animal head finials. All completely solid, intact and in combat ready condition for around 300 years of age.
