Italian Broad Sword ca 1550 Handle is composed of wood and appears to have some sort of lacquer or protective coat with a very large oval pommel with what appear to be coins on either side. One depicts a horse and the other is a mounted horse. The guard is composed of a S shaped quillons which screw towards the end. Markings on the guard are of a rectangle with the points crossing at the centre. The blade is a short broad (5 cm wide) double edge with a diamond cross section a very sharp edge and minimal rust. It is very common that sword from the age might have had some replacements to the grip over their long lives. Specifications Overall 99 CM Handle App 15.5 CM For more information on Oakeshott Type XIX see this extract of Ewart Oakeshott's Records of the Medieval Sword: www.sword-site.com/thread/187/oakeshott-type-records-medieval-swordSource: www.ebay.com.au/itm/Italian-Knightly-Broad-Sword-Ca-1550-/360774343159?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53ffd399f7&_uhb=1
