Early 19th century, dating to the early period of the safe haven colony established by Americans to harbor freed and repatriated slaves. Form unique to the colony with 33 3/4 broad, triple fullered blade of medieval broadsword form and one piece wood hilt with expansions above and below the grip. The oval pommel with an iron bar securing the tang. Uniform ageing with mostly bright finish to the blade and a little staining with some pitting to the point only. Hilt shows some edge wear to the projections. Source: www.faganarms.com/Liberian-Broadsword-c179.aspx
