Circa 2nd-3rd Century A.D. The sword with flat blade curving to a point, incised on either side with three long grooves, incised Roman numerals are legible on one side above the grooves, the pommel and guard of simple curved form, the grip missing, 25¼in (64.1cm) long; and four other pieces of Roman weaponry, including a Roman iron military pugio (dagger) blade, 15in (38cm) long; a Roman iron spearpoint, 10in (25.3cm) long; and two bronze attachments of crescentic form with scrolling corners, circa 1st-3rd Century A.D., 2¼in (5.7cm) maximum height (5) Sold for £7,200 inc. premium Provenance: Acquired by the vendor 3-4 years ago from an old collection in Germany formed in the 1930s to 1950s, said to have been discovered together.
