It never ceases to amaze me how many people are quick to call themselves authorities on swords, steels and knives; who have clearly never read basic primers on steel and carbon steel. In the past there were libraries, so there was no excuse then, and now there is the internet, so there is even less excuse for sloppy, half baked scholarship.
Read the rules, learn the basics and understand them before presenting yourself as an authority. Wikipedia has excellent primers on steel, hardening and virtually every aspect of industrial iron - but unfortunately the arm chair warriors have penned many of their entries on swords and European Martial Arts; which is a huge part of why I built Sword-Site. If we have groups like MyPalmery and Sword Loser's Guide writing the guide books, and the masses failing to do any independent research or even knowing how to, it's no wonder there is so much dung that passes as knowledge on the net during this so called "Renaissance of the European Sword".
That's why there are so many academic papers on Sword-Site, why I have assembled the biggest collection of free images and measurements and swords available in one place on the net, why I believe it is so necessary to foster the likes of Dr. Timothy Dawson and Jeffrey Hull and Don Pentecost and Marc MacYoung - it's because the vast majority of internet 'experts' out there would only ever pass an expert's examination in the playing of micro-skin flute.
