Offered is an original Australian/New Zealand Army commando fighting knife, made by N.Z. Cutlers, Auckland during WW2 in it's leather scabbard. The knife features a cast aluminum checkered grip with the original knuckle, skull crusher and owners name impressed into the smooth grip face. The name is George W Behrens. The naming looks period done, so good to see a named piece. The casting is the typical, rough, hurried type, which was due to the necessity of getting these made quickly and getting them straight to the troops. The blade features a sharpened edge, with false edge atop, measuring 14.5 cm long and is maker marked for N.Z. Cutlers Co. Auckland. The knife fits smoothly into the leather scabbard, which shows some stitching fraying to the left side, most likely from in and out wear. The scabbard retains the twin slits for belt attachment. The knife overall is well suited to hand to hand combat, fits very comfortably in the hand and is exceptionally well balanced. These are very hard to find for sale these days, being a private purchase wartime piece, these are highly collectible.
