Napoleonic period. 16 1/8" straight d.e. blade with broad medial fuller, mostly crisp and bright with some scattered pock marks pitting as expected for use at sea. Silver hilt with disk terminal recurved diamond shaped guard struck with a hall mark each side. Elegant ivory grip with expanded pommel, shaped with alternate bead and cusped bands. Silver base ferrule, pommel cap and urn form button. Silver excellent with good patina and crisp marks. Ivory with mellow honey patina and a short age crack at the base. Made to order for an officer of means. Source: www.faganarms.com/French-Naval-Officers-Dirk-Or-Short-Sword-c349.aspx
