Straight blade with two wires, of hexagonal, shelled the fort, and stamped with marking "SMF" of Solingen; hilt hilt with wings and swastika brass pommel disc bearing swastika and engraving foliage of oak on the sides; handle covered with leather plait. Blue leather covered scabbard (repaired), with metal mounts and white leather loop with the hook. Length 89.5 cm. Sold at auction for € 800.00 03/28/2015 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LuftwaffeFor more information on Oakeshott Type XIX swords see this extract of Ewart Oakeshott's Records of the Medieval Sword: sword-site.com/thread/187/oakeshott-type-records-medieval-swordSource: czernys.com/auctions_lot.php?oggetto=55620&asta=50Editor's Note: This sword could be arguably a Type XIX or a Type XVI; Oakeshott's categorization of swords is not perfect. I had to choose one type, and I feel that XIX is a better fit by a small margin.
The inclusion of Nazi era German edged weapons in this museum does not reflect any approval of Nazi doctrine by Sword-Site.
In order that I might show a full length shot of this sword type, which was unavailable via Czeny's listing (which was of a particuarly beautifully preserved sword) I have included the following photo of an extremely similar example: Source: auctionet.com/en/14527-sabel-luftwaffe-schwert-tyskland-1900-tal-med-svart-skinnbalja/images
